Se7en Sins

Ncase you hadn't heard, the Vatican recently came out with a new list of 7 Mortal Sins. Not to be confused with the original "7 Deadly Sins" re-popularized by the 1995 movie starring Pitt, Freeman & Spacey. I suppose they could be considered modern, or bullshit depending on how you look at it. Whether you're curious or not here's the list:

1. "Bioethical" violations such as birth control
2. "Morally dubious" experiments such as stem cell research
3. Drug abuse
4. Polluting the environment
5. Contributing to widening divide between rich and poor
6. Excessive wealth
7. Creating poverty

It just makes you wanna high five the pope right?

OK, maybe not. A few of those sound good... Pollution, poverty, social injustice. Drugs though? Come on. Caffeine is a drug. Is someone who drinks a shitload of coffee going to hell? These are Mortal sins after all. The one that really gets me is 'excessive wealth'. Who is more excessively wealthy than the Catholic Church? I wonder if it's even known how much money they have. I mean, they've paid out over $2 Billion in abuse settlements alone, and they really didn't even dip into their pockets. I'd love to see their balance sheet. I could go on for days about this, and I will sometime later on. Right now I'm just saying that they have tons of liquid assets, possibly the largest real estate holdings in the world, and they don't pay taxes. Rome and it's money have always been and still are involvd in some shady shady shit.

On the bright side, I guess we can all rest easy knowing that glass dildos are not on that list.

Interview With Ricardo S. Sanchez

This is one of the best interviews I've seen concerning the events that transpired Early in the invasion and subsequent occupation of Iraq, especially in relation to what transpired at Abu Ghraib. If you are unfamiliar with Lieutenant General Sanchez you won't be after watching this. Read Sanchez's Wiki entry for a quick intro. Now for the Charlie Rose interview:

After seeing this I can't help thinking that it only gets more complicated from here.
